Cambridge Science Centre is offering FREE Virtual School Trips throughout the Summer Term and TSM have signed up!
Virtual School Trip will allow you and your child to watch an engaging, curriculum linked science show with practical demonstrations presented by one of their Science Communicators.
Virtual School Trip features two shows - Stronger by Design (material science) and Sonic Science (the physics and biology of sound). These trips will be available for one week, once access has been booked.(The school does this). Once your access starts, you and your child can watch the pre-recorded show at any time, and from anywhere, all for free.
Once you've watched, there are open-ended questions linked to the show that will get everyone involved in great discussions. There is also a challenge to spark some experimental thinking.
Designed to be done at home with whatever is available, the challenge will get children to consider fair testing, experimental design, and data collection. Everyone's resources will be different, so everyone's methods will be too!
How it works:
- Pick your show pack and the date you'd like your FREE access to start. (The school has already completed the registration part)
- Access always starts on a Monday, and runs for seven days.
- A URL/website link and password will be emailed to you on your start day.
- You and your child have unlimited access and watch time throughout your access period.
- An internet connection and internet enabled device are required to access this content.
- Your access will close at 11:59 pm on the seventh day (the Sunday night).
The shows:
Stronger by Design
What dangers do firefighters face, what makes a bullet proof vest so strong, and does any of this relate to custard? This show looks at the engineering behind some of the most amazing materials that keep us safe when we’re in danger. We look at the fabrics that protect firefighters from flames and water, how a woven material can stop a bullet, how many materials astronauts need to stay safe on a spacewalk, and, seriously, why is custard important? Introducing concepts including staying safe, forces, and materials.
Suitable for All Ages, aimed at Key Stage 1 and 2. Show is ~25 minutes
Sonic Science
Ever wondered what sound is or how it travels? How do we even know a sound is being made? Find out as we use tuning forks, speakers, ping-pong balls, smoke rings, and an oversized model of the ear to explore the world of sound. Introducing concepts including pitch and frequency, states of matter, and human anatomy.
Suitable for All Ages, aimed at Key Stage 2 and 3. Show is ~30 minutes
Trimley has booked
Sonic Science for Monday 4th May.... an email with website and password will be sent to KS2 parents
Stronger by Design for Monday 11th May..... an email with website and password will be sent to KS1 and KS2 parents
We hope this is fun, fun, fun and if you want to email in photos to share on the school blog, then please email into ad.trimleystmartin.p@talk21.com
