Looking for some ideas and resources to celebrate VE Day?
Can you do one wild thing a day throughout the whole of June? The Suffolk Wildlife Trust believe you can! Join thousands of people taking part in the annual nature challenge, 30 Days Wild! Do it for your health, well being, wildlife and the planet! What is 30 Days Wild? 30 Days Wild is a fun, feel-good challenge run by The Wildlife Trusts every June. Back for its sixth year, it brings people closer to nature where they live, taking small actions that can collectively have a big impact! From little things such as watching a bee from your window or feeding the birds, to giving up single-use plastics for a month or digging a pond in your garden: every Random Act of Wildness counts. What's in a 30 Days Wild pack? When you sign up, you'll be able to download a host of goodies to help you plan your month. You’ll have a wall chart, wildlife bingo, an activity passport and a nature table template. The Trust send you lots more resources leading up to June too, from instructions for baking hedgehog cupcakes to a beginner’s guide to wildlife photography. Why take part?
While nature needs us more than ever, the reverse is also true. We’re all part of nature, and it should be a part of our lives. Over the past five years, we've been working with the University of Derby to find out about the impact that 30 Days Wild has on participants. The results show that people feel happier and healthier after taking part, and for months after too! Who are The Wildlife Trusts? The Wildlife Trusts is a grassroots movement, made up of 46 individual Wildlife Trusts operating in every corner of the UK, Alderney and the Isle of Man. We care for 2,300 incredible wild places, from remote woods and wild rivers to inner city pockets of nature. We also look after the amazing wildlife that lives on our coasts and in our seas. By taking part in 30 Days Wild, you can help us to achieve our mission of bringing people closer to nature, and land and seas rich in wildlife. did you get the parentmail?Cambridge Science Centre is offering FREE Virtual School Trips throughout the Summer Term and TSM have signed up! Virtual School Trip will allow you and your child to watch an engaging, curriculum linked science show with practical demonstrations presented by one of their Science Communicators. Virtual School Trip features two shows - Stronger by Design (material science) and Sonic Science (the physics and biology of sound). These trips will be available for one week, once access has been booked.(The school does this). Once your access starts, you and your child can watch the pre-recorded show at any time, and from anywhere, all for free. Once you've watched, there are open-ended questions linked to the show that will get everyone involved in great discussions. There is also a challenge to spark some experimental thinking. Designed to be done at home with whatever is available, the challenge will get children to consider fair testing, experimental design, and data collection. Everyone's resources will be different, so everyone's methods will be too! How it works: - Pick your show pack and the date you'd like your FREE access to start. (The school has already completed the registration part) - Access always starts on a Monday, and runs for seven days. - A URL/website link and password will be emailed to you on your start day. - You and your child have unlimited access and watch time throughout your access period. - An internet connection and internet enabled device are required to access this content. - Your access will close at 11:59 pm on the seventh day (the Sunday night). The shows: Stronger by Design What dangers do firefighters face, what makes a bullet proof vest so strong, and does any of this relate to custard? This show looks at the engineering behind some of the most amazing materials that keep us safe when we’re in danger. We look at the fabrics that protect firefighters from flames and water, how a woven material can stop a bullet, how many materials astronauts need to stay safe on a spacewalk, and, seriously, why is custard important? Introducing concepts including staying safe, forces, and materials. Suitable for All Ages, aimed at Key Stage 1 and 2. Show is ~25 minutes Sonic Science Ever wondered what sound is or how it travels? How do we even know a sound is being made? Find out as we use tuning forks, speakers, ping-pong balls, smoke rings, and an oversized model of the ear to explore the world of sound. Introducing concepts including pitch and frequency, states of matter, and human anatomy. Suitable for All Ages, aimed at Key Stage 2 and 3. Show is ~30 minutes Trimley has booked Sonic Science for Monday 4th May.... an email with website and password will be sent to KS2 parents Stronger by Design for Monday 11th May..... an email with website and password will be sent to KS1 and KS2 parents We hope this is fun, fun, fun and if you want to email in photos to share on the school blog, then please email into ad.trimleystmartin.p@talk21.com Take Care and Stay Safe Click the link below and sign up for access for free and exciting science experiments, games and activities
