Good use of the cooperation, creativity, adventurous and cooperation gems.
In science we have been learning about scientists. They learnt that a scientist is not your stereotypical idea, a white man, in a lab coat and with mad, sticking up hair; but instead can be male, female, black, white, from any country and can be any age. The children completed their own research on scientists. Here are some examples of some of their work. Good use of the cooperation, creativity, adventurous and cooperation gems.

Learning about the weather in French with Mrs Hammond. To finish the last half-term's PSHE unit on dreams and goals, the children created a fundraising idea, considering who they were raising money for and what they could do. I hope you enjoy the videos. Good use of the cooperation, creativity and adventurous gems.
Today we were so lucky in year 5 to have a travelling theatre company join us. The play was performed by three actors who told the story of pollution, what pollution is and things to help stop pollution. The children learnt that pollution is caused by factories, aeroplanes and the worst polluter of all - vehicles. The message that everyone was left with, was that everyone can do their bit to help with pollution. The children then wrote a recount of the play for their writing lesson.
We finished our science unit today by looking at what endangered and extinct means and the effect that this has on plants and animals. The children learnt that five things can contribute to this - habitat loss, pollution, introduced species, overconsumption and population growth. We discussed how breeding programmes work in zoos. The children then completed some research on a chosen animal and represented their work as they wished- leaflet, comic strip, poem, etc. Here are just a few examples of their work.
We have finished our history unit on the Anglo-Saxons. Over the unit, the children have explored whether the Anglo-Saxon period was really a period of Dark Age. The children have considered the way they lived, how they buried their dead and artefacts. They also considered some sources of evidence. We visited Sutton Hoo, and here the children began to learn that if the Anglo-Saxons were so uncivilised, how on earth did they create such intricate and finely crafted items, such as the helmet, sword blades, etc. To finish the unit, the children had to compare facts that supported the idea that the Anglo-Saxon period was really a period of Dark Age, against facts that suggested it wasn't. They then had to come to their own conclusion based on those facts. Great use of these learning gems.
