During our last few weeks of term, and our return to school, we have been developing our watercoloring skills further by painting fruit, building upon the skills learnt as part of remote learning. We are very pleased with the results! We started by painting apples using an outline given on the paper. The following week we then moved onto painting pears studying example paintings and real pears. The last week (as Mrs M was not in) we followed an online tutorial to produce a watercolour watermelon slice! I hope you agree our painting skills have really developed this year! Great use of these Learning Gems:We had been working on this topic during remote learning and we finished it with a double page spread (at school) to show what we had learnt. The children thoroughly enjoyed being given the opportunity to show what they knew in their own ways. Good use of these learning Gems:Since we've all been back at school, we have been working really hard to write a song including some of the things we need to remember when we are working with Fractions, Decimals and Percentages. First we looked at the number of syllables that were in the song we wanted to use - George Ezra's Shotgun - to help us make sure the lines we came up with would fit with the music. Then we started brainstorming things we know about Fractions, Decimals and Percentages and how we could make them into lines for the song. After we had written the song, we practiced a few times and then decided we should go a little further and create a music video to go along with our singing! We worked in groups to plan and create part of the music video. Here are some of us preparing our props... As you will see when you watch the video, some of us wanted to be on the camera and others were happy to be behind the camera! Then, after lots of editing, the song and its music video was ready for your viewing. We hope you enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it. We will continue to use it is class to help us. Great use of these learning gems:Today, we finished a task we had begun last week on entomologists. We watched a short video to find out what they were and then produced a flip card about some types. We were amazed by some of the things you can do as an entomologists - especially helping to solve crimes and finding new species! We created branching keys this afternoon, using the insects that had been painted during a lockdown art lesson and the knowledge of branching keys we had gained from a lockdown science lesson. Good use of this learning gem:
We then used the colours we had identified to complete our own grids. Some children chose to use 50-100 and others challenged themselves by choosing their own numbers. On Friday, we used our multiplication, squared and cubed number knowledge in a different way by completing a mosaic puzzle. We have also started to write a song based on our knowledge of Fractions, Decimals and Percentages. We hope to be able to show you the finished song soon! Good use of this learning gem:In Mandela class one of our favourite times of the week is Book Club, where we get to share and read books in small groups purely for fun and discuss what we are reading. We do this 3 days a week. It was lovely to get back to it, now everyone is back in school. Our new books:Enjoying Reading in Book Club:Good use of these Learning Gems:
Good use of these Learning Gems:Our last week before we are all back together again! Here are the highlights: Art - Watercolour Insect Work
English - Final Suspense StoriesThis week we finished off our suspense stories ready to share them when return to school next week.
Some of us typed them up as short stories whilst others made them into mini picture books. We used the toolkit to help remind us the techniques we needed to include. |
