Today we have been learning about the Graffiti artist Keith Haring, who is famous for his simplistic, stylised line drawings. It was interesting to find out more about the meanings behind his artwork and how he developed his unique, now famous, style. During the 1980’s Keith began his career in art in the NYC subway station. Keith was inspired by the graffiti art he saw around him in NYC. Haring was careful to draw on black paper panels which were going to be covered. He also used chalk because it was easily removable. His artwork brighten up the subway and appealed to many different people. GOOD USE OF THE Creativity GEM:In Literacy we have been learning about the ‘Show not Tell’ technique which can improve our writing, by not telling the reader how we are feeling but showing them through description. Today we experimented with drama to refine this skill. Can you guess the feelings? GOOD USE OF THESE Learning GEMS:Today is National 'Outside Classroom Day' and although we didn't do our SATs outside we spent most of the the rest of the day outside: learning our audition pieces for 'Wind in the Willows'; reading 'Holes' during ERIC; having a guitar lesson; doing some French inspired artwork and playing rounders! A great day in the sun! GOOD USE OF THEse GEms:Last day of SATs. Mandela class have really blown me away this week! Such positivity and resilience in the face of challenge. It has been fantastic to see them supporting each other and enjoying the experience 😊 rather than dreading it! Now they are over......
Another great day with lots of keen children ready to complete the reading SAT (once they had put down their own reading book and consumed vast quantities of toast) and some fun rounders games to finish off the afternoon. Smiling faces and positivity once again!
Tomorrow our SATs start and the first test is the SPAG test. Have a look at this YouTube video to help you, be warned it's very catchy! Today we had our last SATs revision session for SPAG - writing SATs style SPAG questions for each other on the playground. We are ready for our first challenge on Monday morning.
