TRIMLEY ST MARTIN PRIMARY SCHOOL |
Today we used our Editing Stations to improve our own work. We visited each station to help us improve the first draft of our chapters for our non-fiction books. It really made us think about our work and ways to improve it! Tomorrow we will start writing up or typing up our books in neat. Good use of these learning gems:

We have finished our first Art unit in Mandela class and decided to open up an art gallery to display all of our fantastic work. We have worked really hard and produced some fantastic pieces of 3D artwork! Here are each of our individual displays:In Art we have been exploring the work of the famous sculptor and painter Alberto Giacometti, comparing his unique style with that of Henry Moore (who we looked at earlier on this term). We then made our own Giacometti style sculptures using garden wire and modroc.
We will be painting the sculptures, so watch this space for the finished results! Today saw the first six children perform their poems to the rest of the class. In Mandela Class we are lucky enough to have Mr Harvey work with us to help a different group (each half term) to learn a poem off by heart and recite it to the rest of the class. This is a skill, which is not only part of the Year 6 expectations for reading, but is also a life skill which prepares the children for High School and beyond. It always amazes me how all different types of children respond to the task and the change which occurs in their confidence and ability in just 6 weeks. Well done!
In Science we are studying 'Classifying Critters' - all about classifying living things into the 5 kingdoms. So far we have found out about Plants, Animals and Bacteria and today we learnt about Fungi. We explored the most recognised form of fungi - the mushroom! Mrs Matthews brought in lots of different types of mushrooms for us to draw and look at. Afterwards Miss Davey cooked them so we could all have a taste. There were mixed reactions - but it was a fun morning :-) Parents - you would be surprised how many children enjoyed eating mushrooms!! We looked in the Wild Wood for some mushrooms - they are loving the damp environment! Good use of these learning gems:This week in Literacy we have been working really hard to produce our own display boards, with each group focusing on a different aspect of Nelson Mandela's life. We worked really well to independently organise our groups and work together to create an informative board, so visitors to our classroom can learn more about the great man himself! Fantastic work!!
The first of our YR workshops took place today. I was so proud of the girls who planned everything themselves and worked brilliantly to run the activity all afternoon with YR. What a fantastic start to this new initiative to bring together the oldest and youngest members of our school community! Great use of these learning gems:In Mathematics this week we have been learning the long multiplication method. In class we have been demonstrating to each other how to set out the method and working hard to master it! Here is a demonstration for how to use the method: Good use of these learning gems: |
