In PSHE we have been finding out about Sustainable Development and how to be good Global Citizens. We decided to make some changes in our own school community by having a litter pick. So today we spent half an hour doing a litter pick in three groups: on the field, in the wild wood and on the playground and carpark. We found a surprising amount of litter in such a short space of time! It was fun and productive.

This week Y4 were able to read our amazing nonfiction books all about Nelson Mandela. Apparently they enjoyed them. Once they have been quarantined we will look at their feedback 😀 Here are some pictures sent by Y4.
This week, we spent more time on finishing our bags. Once again the focus from the children was great and I'm so pleased with how the finished bags look, just a few more to complete next week and then an evaluation to do before some of these will go home to be wrapped up for beautiful Christmas presents for family members. Great use of these learning gems:Good use of this learning gem:This week we drew upon our poetry writing and once again put ourselves into the shoes of Nelson Mandela, writing a diary entry from his time on Robben Island between 1964 and 1982. We wrote a first draft and then used drama and our editing stations to build upon and improve our work. Using drama to help put ourselves into the shoes of Mandela and find our writer's voice.
GOOD USE OF THESE LEARNING GEMS:It was friendship week at school this week. On Friday we came to school in odd socks to help us remember that we are all unique!
Today we made sure we understood what squared and cubed numbers were by making them using small cubes.
2 cubed is 8 After that, we used our quick mental calculation skills as well as our written multiplication skills to work out other squared and cubed numbers. good use of these gems:This week in DT we continued to make prototypes of the bags we are planning to make and some children moved on to making their final bags. I have been really impressed with the focus from the children and how they have been willing to adapt their ideas due to Covid restrictions meaning we aren't always able to get the resources we wanted! A few of the prototypes that were finished this week: A few of the bags in progress: Great use of these gems:Today we were able to put together our finished patchwork quilt, made up of a variety of dip dyed fabric squares, with a design produced with permanent fabric markers and enhanced with stitching detail. Great use of these Learning Gems:Aren't they fabulous!!!GOOD USE OF THis LEARNING GEM: |
