Our next group of five performed their poems to the rest of the class. In Mandela Class we are lucky enough to have Mr Harvey work with us to help a different group (each half term) to learn a poem off by heart and recite it to the rest of the class. This is a skill, which is not only part of the Year 6 expectations for reading, but is also a life skill which prepares the children for High School and beyond. It always amazes me how all different types of children respond to the task and the change which occurs in their confidence and ability in just 6 weeks. What a treat! Another fantastic performance. Well done everyone!
A sucessful afternoon. We made almost £200. Thank you to all the parents who came along and supported us. We all had a go using a compass in Geography, finding out where North is and identifying the sights and sounds on each point of the compass. Come and see us on Thursday AfternoonThis afternoon we welcomed some parents to help us make our brilliantly sewn Christmas Robin and Dove Christmas tree decorations. It was a chance for us to use some of our sewing skills again!
Today we had a Viking Day. It was great fun, we spent the morning in our longhouse (it was very dark and smokey) and the afternoon performing our Viking play (with some great acting and brilliant singing) and then inviting our parents back to the longhouse where we read them our Viking sagas. A brilliant day! Our Viking PlayIn the LonghouseThis term Mrs Cumming has been teaching us about Buddhism and today we finished off the unit by making our own Buddhas. It has been very interesting learning all about Buddhism and its teachings. Here are some of our brilliant Buddhas!
We have been using maps to identify places in our local area. It was a challenge for some people to work out where familiar points were on the map. Once we had our bearings we were able to identify and label places from the local area, including the school and our own homes!
Our Viking Amulets are finally painted and finished, ready for us to wear next Monday for our Viking Day.
