Trimley St Martin Primary School is officially 150 years old!
TSM first opened its doors on October 9th, 1875, shortly after the Forster Education Act of 1870 made elementary education compulsory for all children. Our very first class welcomed 28 boys and 14 girls, taught by Mary Ann Bone, an uncertificated teacher who stepped in until the school’s equipment arrived.
From those humble beginnings, the school has grown and changed alongside the village, always remaining at the heart of our local community.
To celebrate this special anniversary, we recently enjoyed a wonderful Victorian-themed day, giving pupils a glimpse into what school life might have looked like all those years ago. It was a fantastic way to honour our history while looking forward to the future.
Here’s to 150 years of learning, community, and tradition —
and to many more to come!
