Look at our fantastic creations....
In our Art lesson this week, we experimented with some tie-dyeing. We tied some elastic band around our pieces of material and then dipped them in coloured ink. We then tied the elastic bands onto another section of our material and dipped into another colour ink. We repeated these steps until we were happy with our result. This week we started our new maths unit of 'Position and Direction'. We looked at lots of direction vocabulary such as left, right. forwards, backwards, under and above. We drew directions, looked at the position of different objects and people in relation to where we were sat in the classroom and later in the week wrote directions for our partner to then follow on the playground. Next week we will be looking at turning clockwise and anti-clockwise! We have had another busy week in Year 2. We have been sharing pictures of our growing sunflowers, been learning lots about measuring height and length in our maths lessons, and getting our race practice in ready for Sports day! We then ended the week by dressing up as different characters - great effort Year 2, you all looked fantastic! This week we began our new science topic 'We are Gardeners'. In our first lesson, we planted our own sunflower seeds. We had to put some soil into a plastic cup and gently push some sunflower seeds into the soil before topping the cup up with a little more soil. We made sure we gave our new plants some water too! We have taken our sunflower plants home to look after - making sure they get plenty of sunlight and water. I wonder whose will grow the tallest? We have also planted some extra sunflowers to keep in our classroom and observe their growth. * Did you know that a Sunflower is called a Sunflower because it follows the sun's journey across the sky throughout the day?! * In maths this week we started our new unit of Height and Length. We learnt that there is 100 centimetres in 1 metre. We then measured a number of different objects in the classroom to see if they were longer or shorter than 1 metre. We even measured ourselves to see if we too were longer or shorter than 1 metre. We then had to sort them objects and ourselves into 'More than 1 metre' and 'Less than 1 metre' hoops. We all had lots of fun! For part of our Art unit, this week we done some leaf printing. We firstly went outside to collect some different shaped and sized leaves. We then took them back into the classroom where we painted different colour over their patterns. Next, we then turned the leaves over onto some paper and gently pushed down to create a print. We then repeated this step with different leaves and different colours. |
