This afternoon we walked to the church in Kirton to find out about the type of stone gravestones were made from and which stones we thought were best for the job. The class behaved wonderfully, listening to the church volunteers, who kindly gave up their time to join us, giving us lots of information about the history of some of the graves. The children were able to identify some of the different stones that have been used and noticed what happened after the stones had been in a churchyard for a long time (some of the gravestones they looked at were over 100 years old!)
