We have lucky enough to of been blessed with some lovely hot, sunny weather this week and it looks set to continue for at least a little while. We are using our outside area even more now, so sun-hats, sun-cream and a water/drinks bottle are essential. We are providing extra water whilst outside, and reminding the children to drink! We do have spare sun-hats, but unfortunate not enough for all!
As you may of read on the front of the homework, this week in our Maths lessons, we have been learning about symmetry. We have made both large and small scale symmetrical pictures with multilink cubes, shapes and drawings. We have learnt that the term 'Symmetry' means an object or picture which looks the same on both sides......so we decided to incorporate this into our weekly cooking session by making symmetrical pizzas.
We each imagined we had a line down the middle of our pitta bread, and whichever topping we placed on one side of the line, we had to place in the same spot on the other side of the line. We has to think carefully about it at first, but then we soon got the hang of it. We thought our pizzas looked quite symmetrical.....and very yummy!
Thank you to Alex, who came in to help us with our cooking.

The day finally arrived for our long awaited trip to Colchester Zoo. The children's excitement has been building all week- they have even been counting down the days....so this morning they all came in with beaming smiles and were raring to go.
We boarded the coach, and after the usual questions of 'Are we nearly there yet?' and 'When is it lunchtime?'....we were soon at the zoo.
We were all then free to explore the zoo in our groups before meeting up for a picnic lunch, and then back into the zoo for another hour or so before returning to school.
A brilliant time was had by all and we saw many of the Zoo's different animals- from Elephants and Lions to Otters and Tortoises. The adults all commented on how impeccably behaved the children were - in fact they showed other schools up! (older children too). So well done to all of them- especially as it was rather a warm and long day!
A big thank-you to all those parents who accompanied us - you were all a great help - this goes to the staff too!
Unfortunately we did have some children who were unable to make the trip due to being poorly- we do apologise and feel for them missing out - but they each have a goody bag waiting for them at school!
I think all the children (and adults!) will sleep well tonight!
Take a look at some photos from our day.....
As you may of heard, we have had the 'green light' to use our school pool. Our first swimming session is tomorrow (Wednesday 13th), and will continue to be every Wednesday until the end of term (hopefully).
If you would like to volunteer to help, there is a list up on the classroom door for you to put your name on. We are hoping for 4 parent helpers each session.
A HUGE WELL DONE and CONGRATULATIONS to one of the members of class hughes for winning the title of 'Primary Engineer' for her design of a 'Talking bed'. Along with her parents, she travelled to the University of Hertfordshire to be presented with an award for her winning design!
Well done!...we all very proud of you!
