How will the curriculum be matched to my child’s/young person’s needs?
Trimley St Martin aims to provide a curriculum that is ambitious and designed to give all learners, particularly the most disadvantaged and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) or high needs, the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life . In all lessons children are planned for and appropriately differentiated to ensure that they are sufficiently challenged, taking note of Individual Target Plans. The Senior Leadership Team (SLT), including the SENDCo, help to support this process. SLT observe lessons and feedback to the staff so that this is monitored and actions put into place.
How will the school staff support my child?
All year groups have Teaching Assistants. Specific children with complex needs that require extra support; support is tailored to the individual child.
At Trimley St Martin we have Specialist Teaching Assistants (HLTA, Thrive and Learning Behaviour Leads), who deliver programmes of support for children with additional needs. The sessions run are: Speech and Language, Nurture Group, Gymtrail, Social/friendships groups and bespoke 1:1 sessions.
Individual or group interventions are utilised to support the needs of children, including, 1:1 reading sessions, nurturing lunch club, playtime support, physio, hand gym, booster groups and literacy and numeracy focussed interventions.
How will my child be included in activities outside the school classroom including school trips?
We try to adapt extracurricular activities that are offered for our SEND children, If you are concerned about your child attending any club, please speak to the school office who will put you in touch with the relevant people to discuss your child’s needs.
All trips are planned according to the needs of each individual child. All children are catered for. Only in exceptional circumstances, after a thorough risk assessment has been completed and a discussion between SLT and parents would a child be unable to attend an extra-curricular activity.
What support will there be for my child’s overall well being?
What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the school?
We use the following specialist services in the schools:
What training have the staff supporting SEND had or what training are they having? Anger Management, Speech and Language training, Forest Schools training, SEND reforms, Attachment, Autism Spectrum Disorder ( ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(ADHD), Dyslexia, Dyscalculia.. Some of our training is whole school and other training is directed at those who need it. Some training is delivered by staff within the school, and some is sought by outside providers – either Local Authority or privately.
Mrs Ross Headteacher and SENDCo has the National Award for SEND.
If children are arriving from other schools or settings with SEND, then our staff make contact with the previous setting. We develop a bespoke transition package according to the child’s needs. This is always includes the child, Parents/Guardians, staff from both settings and often other professionals.
How accessible is the school both indoors and outdoors? Trimley St Martin have had children with physical difficulties and the building is often adapted to ensure inclusion of pupils and visitors to the school. This includes 3 entrance and exit ramps, widened doors and disabled toilets. Please see our Accessibility Plan, which incorporates plans for the future.
How are parents involved in the school? How can I get involved?
We try hard to engage parents in the life of the school and their child’s education and are keen to seek parent’s comments on what we do well and what we could do better. There is a Parent/Teacher School Association, who organise events to raise money for the school and put on events such as discos. Parents are invited into their child’s class once per term to come and work with their child and discover their child's new learning.
Parents can also volunteer in school. If you would like to do so you should give your name to the office. You will also need to be DBS checked to work in school. We use 'Tapestry' in Reception and ‘Seesaw’ across Key Stage 1 and 2, which provides immediate access to parents and guardians via an app to see what their children have been working on during the day. Parents can also post their comments too.
