What do I do if I have a concern about my child's learning?
My biggest frustration as a Head teacher / SENDCo is finding out information from Parents at the END of the school year regarding concerns about children's learning. E.g "My child's been struggling at home with his/her reading all year!". By which point, we are a year down the line, and we've been unable to do something to help. When I say to Parents "Why didn't you come in sooner?" Their response is that they didn't want to bother us - because we are so busy! We are busy, teachers are always busy, however, every single one of the staff at TSM would be more than willing to meet with you to discuss any concerns you have (even if you think its nothing!) because we can solve the problem, put things in place to help or just explain the situation. So if you do have any concerns... come and tell us early on - don't leave it! Just tell us!
If we have concerns in school, we will make contact with you as soon as possible to discuss what we are doing in school and what can be done at home to support.
If you are concerned about your child's learning, the first person you need to speak to, is your child's Class teacher. Arrange a time before or after school to discuss your concerns (this doesn't have to be during a Parents Evening session). The majority of concerns / issues can be easily solved by the class teacher and require no further action.
Some issues can be a little more challenging to solve and that's where a discussion with myself about the next course of action that can be taken.
