intent-our vision for history
- At Trimley St Martin the National Curriculum is used to underpin our school’s History Curriculum and planning. By learning about History our children will learn to think critically, evaluate evidence through the use of resources and to ask questions about their discoveries.
- Our History teaching and planning (shown in our progression document) allows all pupils to study a range of topics from the History of Britain and the wider world
implementation
As well as ensuring high standards of teaching and learning in History, we implement a curriculum that is progressive throughout the whole school.
The curriculum is taught in units (as shown in the units of work) which ensures progression through year groups and follows the National Curriculum.

- In EYFS, the teachers plan History activities as part of 'understanding of the world, past and present', for the children to take part in through their continuous provision
how the rising stars scheme supports learning
- Rising Stars History is a complete curriculum programme for primary history which provides 18 half-termly units of work to ensure pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain's history, their locality and the history of the wider world.
- It provides 5 lessons focusing on a main enquiry question, which is investigated and researched during each lesson. Lesson 6 allows for a Big Finish to showcase the research and knowledge gained.
- The scheme allows for many cross-curricular links and opportunities to bring History 'alive' in the classroom.
- The Rising Stars planning supports pupils progress by embedding frameworks of content and concepts that enable the pupils to access future material. Links are made within and across units to support pupils in making connections and in developing a strong overview of chronology, breadth and local to global history.

MASTERY IN HISTORY LESSONS
Those working towards expectation will work on the same tasks but may need greater support from using frameworks to complete the tasks. Pupils working above expectations are expected to undertake activities with greater independence and be provided with some opportunities to make choices on how they learn and communicate their knowledge. |
