Today we looked at whether fingerprints were all the same. The children started off by looking at their own fingerprints through a hand lens to see if they could work out what type of fingerprint they had (whorl, loop or arch).
They then used different 'dusts' to see if they could take their own fingerprints - they used cocoa powder, flour and chalk. The chalk was particularly successful! We also took prints using an ink pad and then the children became detectives; trying to work out whose fingerprint they had by looking at the sheet and comparing it with the actual fingerprints on children's fingers. They were very good at spotting the fingerprint shape someone had and were therefore quite good at matching the fingerprint to the right person!
