So today we had a whole afternoon on the subject. In our topic this term we have been learning all about different animals ad todays lesson was all about keeping our planet pollution free. First of all, in our table groups we were given a set of animals card which we had to sort in anyway we liked.
Mrs Tubby was really impressed with how we worked as a team and how each table chose to sort them- The green table sorted their animals into Herbivores and Carnivores
The yellow table sorted them by the colour of their fur or skin
The red table and the blue table both chose to sort their animals into those that had 4 legs and those that had flippers.
We learnt about how many animals, particularly those that live in our oceans can be affected by plastic pollution. We had a really interesting class discussion about the dangers of the rubbish in our oceans and what these means for the animals. We discussed how animals often mistake rubbish for food and that this can then cause the animals to sadly die. We matched animals up to the items of plastic they may often mistake for food, and then matched the animals with the food they should eat and which is safe.
In particular we learnt about how turtles can get caught up in rubbish such as nets and plastic packaging and spoke about all the different rubbish they often mistake for food. We wrote these items around a picture of a turtle.
To finish off the afternoon, we closed our eyes and each thought about how we could help our planet to become plastic pollution free. We each wrote our own pledge about what we will do.
