TRIMLEY ST MARTIN PRIMARY SCHOOL |
We had a lovely, leisurely walk for our Geography this morning. We walked down and across the field at the back of the school, out onto Back Lane to the Rec for a play on the apparatus, then back through Paddock Close and Durilda Green.

This afternoon in our Science lesson, we were learning about our sense of sight. We spoke about how important our eyes and sight are and how they help us to see and do many different things.
We also spoke about how they make us aware of danger, for example they help us see if any cars are coming when we need to cross the road. We then used our sense of sight and also our memory to play 'Kim's game' (my memories of children's parties came flooding back!), For those unfamiliar with this game, we placed different items on a tray, covered them over and then took one of the items away and we then had to guess which item was missing. Finally, we each used a mirror to look closely at our eye and then drew it, labelling some of the parts.. In our maths lesson this morning we were looking at making numbers in different ways using the part-whole model.
First of all, we played an interactive game in which we had to use cubes to partition the whole into two parts and Mrs Tubby wrote down the addition sum we had made. We then had a go ourselves at seeing how many different ways we could make the whole number. We would then roll a die to give us a new number to make! Super maths Year 1! In our maths this morning we started our new unit of 'Addition and Subtraction'. We began by looking at the part-whole model - separating 1 whole into 2 parts. We took our lesson into the hall so we had a big space to work in and set up a part-whole model using hula hoops. We took it in turns to roll the die for our 'whole' number, placing this in the 'whole' part of the model, then we worked out how many parts we could split the whole into and how many different ways we could split it. Then to double check - we added the the two parts together to make sure it added up to the whole.
We got the hang of it very quickly! Super maths work Year 1. In our Art lesson this afternoon we were experimenting with different thickness' of paintbrushes. We each had a thick brush and a thin bush and made different patterns and lines with the different thickness'.
Lovely art work Year 1! Did you know its poetry day today? So in our English lesson this morning we wrote some space themed acrostic poems - linking them to our current class book 'Toys in Space'.
We produced some great poems! Today saw the start of our Guided Reading sessions. Each afternoon for half an hour, Mrs Tubby will take a small group of children into the activity area to read together as a group and discuss the book we are reading. Our first book is called 'The Naughty Bus'.
Today in our maths we have been learning about Ordinal numbers. Some of us were given a whiteboard with an ordinal number written on. We then had to work together to put ourselves in the correct order.
We then had a worksheet which had instructions for us to follow on how to colour the ordinal numbers. |
