In our RE this afternoon, we reminded ourselves of the story of 'Jesus and the feeding of the 5,000'. We thought it was of Jesus and how thankful the 5,000 people would of been. We then thought about some of the words we may use when we pray to God and wrote these on the whiteboard. We used our own socks to make sock puppets and used the words we had thought of in sentence, making our sock puppets 'talk'. We had lots of fun!

Friday 3rd March was TSM World Book Day. Each class had a 'guest reader' (a teacher from another class) to come in and read some books to us. In Year 1 we were lucky enough to have 2 guest readers - Mrs Cockerill (Year 5) and Miss Long (Year 3).
We also came dressed in comfy clothes and brought in blankets. slippers and teddies so we could cosy up and share our books with each other. In this afternoons Science lesson we began our new topic 'Treasure Island'.
Starting the children's interest and excitement off with the hook of a mysterious bottle being left in the classroom which contained a message inside. We opened the bottle and read the message. We discussed..... Who was it from? Where was it from? How did it get here? Where had it been? We had lots of questions about this mysterious bottle and wanted to find out more. We then went into the hall and imagined we were on a boat that had crashed into some rocks and began to sink. We then imagined we were swimming to an island we could see in the distance.....and after using every single piece of our energy, we collapsed in a heap exhausted on the desert Island. This week is Internet Safety week. So this afternoon we had a class discussion about what we thought it meant to be safe when using the internet and how to make sure we are doing this.
We then made some posters to show what we had learnt and to remind us and others of how we can stay safe. As part of our Geography lesson this afternoon, we were looking at what materials different buildings were made from. So we went for a walk around our school to see what materials that was made from. We spotted bricks, wood, metal, glass and slate!
In our Computing lesson this afternoon we have been thinking about what it is like to be a Beebot following instructions. To do this, we paired up and took it in turns to give each other some simple instructions on how to move around the classroom. The vocabulary we used were: Forwards, Backward, Left and Right. Mrs Tubby was very impressed at the clear instructions we gave each other!
In this mornings maths, we were working in our table teams to order numbers from 1 to 20. We each chose a number card and had to make that amount using cubes and counters.
We then worked together to place our numbers and amounts in order from the smallest number to the greatest number. Super ordering and team work Year 1! As part of our DT unit we are looking at children's playgrounds and the equipment we find in them.
In today's lesson we thought back to when we went on our class walk around part of Kirton and stopped off to have a play at the Rec. We managed to remember all of the equipment in the playground and along with this and some further research through pictures and videos we then designed our own children's playgrounds. We came up with some fantastic ideas of what to include in our playgrounds such as zip-wires, water slides, sand-pits, race-tracks, trampolines, baby swings and even musical instruments! Mrs Tubby was super impressed with our designs. Take a look at some... Mrs Tubby and the adults were very pleased to see us all and our smiley faces this morning....and even more pleased at how hard we have been working this morning!
In our maths lesson, we recapped some of our shape learning. We had a go at using cocktail sticks to firstly make 2D shapes which we found quite easy so then we had a go at making 3D shapes...this proved a little more tricky as it was rather fiddly.....but we persevered and some of us were able to make a cube. Great maths today Year 1....and super perseverance! |
