We have been learning all about Florence Nightingale - the Lady of the Lamp and have made our own lanterns during our History and English lessons.

This half term we are learning about Florence Nightingale and other important people in English and in History with not all superheroes wearing capes.
This half term our DT project has been testing different ways of fixing fabric including sewing. The children practiced their running stitch before designing their own finger puppets and making these using the running stitch they had learnt.
To complete our topic of the Great Fire of London the children have been busy making houses from 1666, sang a song all about the Great Fire of London and had a visit from the fire brigade.
We had an amazing time at Colchester Zoo this week when we visited for the day. We saw many of the different animals at the zoo and we were met by an elf called Noel who took us on a penguin experience. We also met a special person at the zoo - Father Christmas!!!
This half term we are continuing to look at materials and how they can be changed to move. We made flying fish and found different ways to make them fly in the air using different heights and ways of letting them go.
We had a fun filled maths afternoon practising addition in year 2! Lots of our families came too, to join in the fun. Here are just a few of the activities that we did!
Today we celebrated National Poetry Day by learning a poem about pirates and performing it to the rest of the class.
This term we are learning about different materials, their properties and the different uses of them. This week we tested various materials - paper, card, fabric, plastic tablecloth and kitchen roll outside in the playground with tubes of water to see which materials were waterproof and learnt about the inventor Charles Macintosh.
