In English we are beginning our new topic about owls. We have thought of a question that we would like to ask an owl, using a question mark to punctuate our sentences.
In Science we continued our focus on healthy eating. We explored the work of Giuseppe Arcimboldo and made our own pictures of faces using a range of foods. We discussed which food group each item of food was categorised in and discussed how much of each food group we should try to consume. We also recapped the benefit each different food group had on our bodies. In Guided reading the children have been exploring poems all about nature 🌎🌳. Each week Mrs Lawrence chooses three children to learn a poem by heart to perform the following week. She was so impressed with these children’s performances 🤩.
Well done, excellent use of the learning gems:
In Computing we have been using Beebots to learn how to write simple algorithms. We started by just exploring the Beebots without any previous knowledge of what they do - other than not to let them fall off the table!! 🤪
We discussed important coding skills such as clearing the memory and discussing the functions of the Bee-Bot- it moves forwards or backwards the length of one Bee-Bot and how it can turn left or right. The children then designed their own Bee-Bot mats and explored moving the Bee-Bot on their mats writing simple algorithms for it. Some used paper beebots to help them initially. Finally, we began to debug our algorithms if the Bee-bot did not go where we wanted it to!
Well done Year 2 excellent use of the learning gems:
