This afternoon we carried out a traffic survey as part of our geography lesson. We were looking at and counting the traffic coming through our village. We saw lots of cars, a few vans, 3 cyclists and a pedestrian!

This afternoon in our science lesson, we made straw rockets.....they were a little fiddly to make but we had lots of fun.
We tested our rockets out and discussed how we thought the rockets flew off the end of the straw. We found that as we blew through the straw it pushed the straw forward which in turn then forced the rocket off the end of the straw. We also found that the bigger the blow through the straw, the further the rocket went. During our discussion, some great vocabulary was used, such as 'movement' 'force' and 'push'. Great work Year 2! In our RE lessons we have been looking at Judiasm. We have been learning all about Mezuzahs, which are small scrolls that contain the Hebrew words of the Shema. These are rolled up and put into a casing which is then fixed on the door frame to Jewish homes, reminding the families of the promises they follow and have made to their lord. In todays lesson, we made our own Mezuzahs. On our 'scrolls' we wrote or drew pictures about something or someone who was special to us. We then cut these out and rolled them up as a scroll before securing them into their case. Some of us said that we would like to put them on our bedroom door frames. Lovely work Year 2! In our art lesson today, we have been printing!. We created designs by pushing a pencil fairly hard onto pieces of Styrofoam. We then carefully painted over the design and printed these onto paper….we had some great results!
During their STEM lesson today, the children worked together brilliantly to build models and structures using only cocktail sticks and blue tac!
Great work Year 2! In our Science. today, we began our new topic of 'Move it'. We created a 'Fish from cutting out a rectangle shape and cutting two slits in to create a 'tail'. Our objective was to explore the different ways in which a ‘Flying Fish’ moves when dropped from a height.
After making our ‘Flying Fish’ we firstly dropped them from our own standing height Next, we worked in partners. Whilst one of us stood on a chair and dropped the fish, the other held the chair still. Then we switched positions. After our experiment we thought about what happened. We found out that: • The higher you are, the further the fish falls/flies. • The fish ‘twisted’ as it fell down. • The fish’s tail went into a zig-zag motion as it fell down. This afternoon we started our new Art unit of 'Printing. We created our own stencils by folding a piece of paper in half, drawing one half of a shape or picture along the fold and cutting it out. We then created patterns by colouring in the center of our stencils, using different colours and positions.
We produced some great results! |
