We were experimenting with cotton wool. We firstly had to hold our hand out and close our eyes whilst Mrs Tubby placed a cotton wool ball in our hand. We had to guess what the object was by feeling it. We had lots of great adjectives to describe it!
We wanted to carry out an investigation to see if cotton wool was waterproof or not. We had a plastic cup and had to see how many dry cotton wool balls would fit inside. We then filled out cups with some water and put the cotton wool balls back in the cup. The water disappeared…..but we soon worked out that the cotton wool balls had absorbed all the water. Phoebe was even able to tip the plastic cup upside down and no water or cotton wool balls fell out! The wet cotton wool had moulded into the cups shape.
The result of our investigation was….No, cotton wool is NOT waterproof.
We used some great scientific vocabulary and found our investigation very interesting. Super scientists!!
