In history today we have been learning about whether King Alfred really deserved the title 'Great'. We explored how King Alfred ran away to Somerset to save himself from the invading Vikings. We explored the story of King Alfred burning the cakes when living with a peasant and getting into trouble for this. The children had to consider whether in fact the story was true or not and concluded that it could not really be proven as there is no written evidence. We then looked at some of the things that made Alfred 'Great', such as creating armies, making a fleet of ships to attack the Vikings at sea, having books translated from Latin in English, providing education and writing the Anglo-Saxon Chronical.

In ICT the children have learnt how to download their codes on a microbit, which has an LED panel and a set of miniature traffic lights . By downloading their codes, they we able to sequence the traffic lights along with lighting up their stop and go symbols. Good use of the following Learning Gems:
In science the children were learning about forensic techniques. They learnt that no one has the same finger prints and there are different types. The children created their own prints and compared them with Miss Lanigan's. They also looked at handwriting samples and examined fibres. Then, the children learnt how to lift fingerprints. Good use of these Learning Gems.
An audio track of Roar and the lyrics. Remember, that this song is just how you know it, but don't slide on those notes. Have fun!
Today in the Irwin class we dressed in our comfy clothes and brought in our favourite book to read. The children shared their favourite book with a friend. This afternoon, we had a Guest Reader, Mrs Matthews come in and share her favourite book and some activities with this too.
