We did science today and learnt more about the planets. We learnt that the planets are all different sizes and that they are all different distances from the sun. Rather than learning the sizes, which would entail many zeros in each number, we compared the planet to fruit. We then used a toilet roll to show the distance of the planets from the sun. We should have done this on Tuesday, but it was too windy. You can just imagine us all running around the field after the loo roll if we had done it then!
In history we have begun learning about the Anglo-Saxons. The children have looked at the this image and considered who may have worn this mask and why, We have also begun to look at our topic question for history, Was the Anglo-Saxon time really a period of Dark Age?
In science today we have begun learning about the Solar System. We have learned that there are eight planets in our Solar System and that they all orbit around the Sun - which is a star.
In art today, the children learnt how to use different mark-making techniques, such as hatching, stippling, zig zags, etc. Then, they had to draw a thistle and imagine something really different inside the thistle. They had all sorts of ideas; a spider, a snake, a fairy garden and lots of other ideas too.
We have had a lovely start to the new academic year, getting to know the children and finding out some of the things we Didn't Do This Summer by using rhyming couplets.
Here are some examples of some of the poems the children wrote. |
