In geography, we have learnt about where in the world the Alps are and the countries they are in. We then looked at how the Alps were formed by the movement of tectonic plates pushing up and creating fold mountains. We learnt about the weather in the Alps, that it can be extremally cold and hot and that there is a lot of precipitation, resulting in either a lot of rain or snow - dependent on the time of year.
We also learnt about some of the industries in the Alps, mainly focusing on tourism. We learnt about avalanches and how to stay safe.
For our big finish, the children created power point presentations to show some of their learning.
The children used the cooperation and creativity gems today.

In our biography writing the children have been learning about Steve Irwin.
They have worked hard on their basic punctuation, such as capital letters and full stops, that their sentences made sense and using commas for clauses.
They learnt about chronology in biographies, how they are always written in past tense, in third person and how to structure the information in paragraphs.
Some of the grammar covered over this unit of writing were relative clauses, FANBOYS and conjunctions.
This is the first piece of published work in Year 5 and some of the children are still developing how to read and edit their final work for minor errors.
