We have finished our maths unit on place values today. For some children, they consolidated their rounding and place value skills; and for other children they worked together to answer some mastery questions to deepen their understanding. We have used the following Learning Gems today:

In science today we have learnt a bit more about the Solar System. We learnt some more about Aristotle and his geocentric model of the Solar System and that this had the Earth at the centre, with Mercury, Venus, Mars, the Sun, Jupiter and Saturn orbiting around our Earth in these strange loop patterns. And then how Ptolemy refined this model. Then we looked at Nicolaus Copernicus' model, that is referred to as the heliocentric model. This has the sun at the centre of the universe and has Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune orbiting the celestial body - the Sun. We had fun recreating both models outside in the playground. We have used the following Learning Gems:
In our third science lesson about the Solar System we learnt about some of the scientists that studied our Solar System - Aristotle, Alhazan, Ptolemy, Nicolaus Copernicus and Galileo. The children worked with a friend to complete a research task to find out about the scientists and record their findings on a timeline. We have used the following Learning Gems today:
In writing we have been learning about Steve Irwin. We have learnt that he foolishly fed a crocodile whilst holding a baby! The children have used a photograph of Steve doing this to write a piece of imagery. Over this unit of writing they have recapped on nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs. Then looked at expanded noun phrases, personification, similes and metaphors. Some of the children included just some of these features in their work, and others, all of the features. Here are some examples of the work.
