The children arrived at school dressed in clothing from the time of the Great Fire - we even had a Samuel Pepys look-a-like! The children then spent time in the hall role-playing events from the day with a visitor named Annie, who helped bring the events from Pudding Lane to life!
Then in the afternoon the children were visited by a team of Firemen. The children lined up their cornflake box houses and learned why the Great Fire of London spread so quickly. The Fireman was able to put this fire out very quickly.
The children learned more about the dangers of fire and what we have in our homes now to keep us safe. They also learnt about why it would be unlikely for another Great Fire of London to occur.
Children will remember this day for a long time to come. They have been gripped with this topic ever since Mr Southernwood dug up a box of Samuel Pepys belongings from our school field. The children learnt a great deal! What a super day! Thank you Mrs Stockdale and Mrs Stagg for inspiring the children!
