The new national curriculum places a greater focus on Spoken language and so the new curriculum and the ESB award will run side by side.
The school recognises that academic ability is not the only key to success in education and into the workplace. A well rounded personality, with academic ability, who models the TSM values will hopefully be even more successful later on in life.
One important skill that is often neglected is the ability to present yourself, to speak clearly and in a way that makes people take note, a way that engages others and enthuses them is also very important skill to master. That is why spoken language is featured quite strongly in the new curriculum and why we feel the ESB award will encourage children to recognise these skills as being just as important as reading, writing and maths.
We will start the programme with the current Year 6 with the help of Mrs Matthews and Mr Harvey and then we intend to roll this out throughout the school.
