As normal, the parents were invited to come in classes and work alongside the children as they learnt about a particular country within the commonwealth. The children learnt all about the country; its location, currency, language, traditions and its people. The children also learnt about the Commonwealth and what it actually means to be part of it.
The afternoon concluded with a Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony in the school playground , where each country will complete a lap of honour wearing their countries team colours and some wore traditional outfits. The Queen and Prince Phillip (a.k.a. Mrs Barrell and Mr Edwards) attended and the children stood for the National anthem.
All 182 children performed a Commonwealth Games dance that was choreographed by Mr Stock & Mr Childs. The dance included a number of the sports in the Commonwealth Games as well as some Scottish 'style' dance moves.
The afternoon was a great success. Thank you to all the parents who came along to support the children both in the class and during the ceremony.
Below are some photos from the afternoon... more to follow, as well as some video.
