This week we were looking at 1/2, 1/4 and 3/4 and finding out what their decimal equivalents were. We used the dienes again this week to help us. First we looked at 1/2. We covered half of a 100 square with the green tenths pieces, discovering we needed 5 tenths to do so. We remembered from last week that 5 tenths was the same as 0.5 so we concluded that 1/2 must be the same as 0.5. We did the same for 1/4 and 3/4. We have also begun to learn to play the recorder. This week we practised the notes A and G so we could play along to one of the ABBA songs we have been learning in music.

The class have again been working hard this week in all of their lessons. In maths we have begun to look at fractions and their decimal equivalences. They were shown 2 ways to find a decimal - using a calculator or a place value grid. They also made use of dienes to help them understand how tenths and hundredths related to each other. In geography we have spent a few weeks finding out about Europe. Today we learnt a little about the EU and what being a part of it means to the people living in the EU. The children used the information they had available to them really well and found that currently there are 28 countries in the EU. Some were surprised to discover that we are part of the EU, others really liked the idea of being able to live or learn in another country in the EU! |
