Whilst a few children in the class were busy representing the school at a sporting event, the rest of us were busy editing the discussions we had written the previous day. We were checking our work to make sure, first of all, there was enough detail in it so someone else knew what we were talking about. Then we used counters to help us spot where the full stops in our work were, checking if they were in the correct place or if we needed any more and we also checked the spelling of words.

Over the past few weeks we have been working hard on the planning and skills we needed to help us make our moving books for reception and KS1. This afternoon we made a start on the actual books.
I, Mrs Hayter, am incredibly proud of what the children have achieved so far. The class are working really well in their teams, thinking about how to make sure their books are interesting for younger children and also making sure the levers they are using work as they want them to. They still have a long way to go before their books are finished, but I know that the KS1 children are going to really love looking at what year 4 have been able to do. The class were sent on missions today, just like Christians within the Anglican church aim to do. They were asked to tend, treasure, transform, tell or teach. The whole class seemed to really enjoyed their missions and have started to understand the importance of doing things not just for themselves but how what they are doing affects other people. We put our place value skills to the test today by having to add or subtract 1000 to a number. First we used our hand-made place value cards to make a number, then added or subtract 1000. It really helped some of us see that the only thing changing was the thousands and occasionally the hundreds and ten thousands, the tens and ones always stayed the same.
