We made good use of the cubes that were on our table to help us. First we made the fraction with them, for example for 1/2 we had two groups with 1 cube in each group. Then we added the same number of cubes to each group, i.e we could have added two more to each group, so there would now be 3 cubes in each group and 6 cubes in total. Then we wrote this as a fraction (3/6). We found that we still had 2 groups and 1 set in each group so worked out that this must be equivalent to 1/2.
