The children have carried out a scientific experiment to investigate the effects of different liquids on teeth. We agreed we couldn't test it out in real teeth, so agreed to use eggshells instead as they are similar to the surface of our teeth. We submerged eggs in 6 different liquids for a week. Below are pictures of the eggs after 7 days!
We observed that the Diet Coke, Coke and tea all stained the egg slightly brown. The orange juice began to break down and dissolve the outer shell. The vinegar caused the shell to completely break down and left us with a bouncy egg!! The water seemed to have no effect on the egg.
We agreed that we needed to think carefully about what we were exposing our teeth to.
