To make a mirror, we stuck a sheet of tin foil to some card, and then wrapped clingfilm over the top. Unfortunately we weren't able to see ourselves in these mirrors, but we tested them with the torches to see if they were reflective like mirrors. We stood the torches up on the table and held the mirror above the torch, and the light reflected back down onto the table!

We explored clay by combining two colours. We first rolled out the terracotta clay into a flat shape. Then we got tiny pieces of the stone clay and shaped it into patterns on top of the terracotta. We had to make these really tiny and detailed! Then when we were happy with our designs we covered it with paper and rolled it out until it was nice and thin. We then used balls of newspaper to help shape the clay into a bowl shape. good use of these learning gems:In maths we have been learning to divide a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number. We have been using Base 10 to create the number, and then dividing it into equal groups. First we looked at no exchange, then with exchange, and then we learnt what a remainder is! GOOD USE OF THESE LEARNING GEMS:In History we have been finding out about the Stone Age and the Bronze Age. We compared clothing today by learning how they made clothes. In the Bronze Age they had learnt to weave wool so their clothing looked much more like modern day clothes compared to the Stone Age. We created a Stone Age outfit and a Bronze Age outfit to show the similarities and differences. GOOD USE OF THESE LEARNING GEMS:In Science we have been exploring mirrors and how they work. We drew some mazes on the floor using chalk, and then had to try and walk along the lines using only the mirror to help! We held the mirror above our head and used the reflection to see where to step, it was very tricky! GOOD USE OF THESE LEARNING GEMS:In Art we have been making papier-mâché bowls. First we made the bowls over balloons. Then we shaped them and painted a base layer of white paint to make them a blank canvas. Then we looked at the artist Howard Hodgkin and used him for inspiration to paint the bowls. They have all turned out fantastically! GOOD USE OF THESE LEARNING GEMS:In Math's lessons we have been looking at multiplication using our times table knowledge. This week we have been multiplying 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers using place value charts. GOOD USE OF THESE LEARNING GEMS:
We have been using our 'Write Like a Ninja' vocabulary books to up level our descriptive writing. The children found some fantastic adjectives to use! GOOD USE OF THESE LEARNING GEMS:We have started our new Science topic - Light. We looked at which objects are sources of light, and then used torches to explore materials in the classroom to see which materials reflect light. GOOD USE OF THESE LEARNING GEMS: |
