Wow! What a brilliant, exciting and informative Morning Reception class had today!
We were lucky enough to have Joshua's Mummy and Daddy, who are both Police Officers, come into visit us, along with one of their colleagues, Percy. 

First of all, they spoke to us about what their job role involves, and the different ways in which they help us.
They also showed us some of the equipment they use, such as their handcuffs and batons, which we got to have a close look at, and their walkie-talkies - a lady in the control room even spoke to us all over it!
We also got the opportunity to try on their vests and hats and ask them lots of questions.

We then split into 2 groups..... half of us went outside to have a look around the Police car and Police van, and try on some more of their uniform, and the other half of the class stayed inside and had our fingerprints taken to make our very own keyrings!
We then swapped over so we all got the chance to do both activities.

We all learnt alot about the different ways in which the Police help us, and REALLY enjoyed our morning!

Unfortunately, this years 'World Book Day' falls on the same day as we will be visiting the Fire Station!

It has been agreed that on the day (Wednesday 6th March), Reception children will come to school in their school uniform, but may bring clothes to change into after lunch.

The theme the school is following this year is to dress up as your favourite word.....this can be anything! ....or can even be as simple as 'Superhero', 'Princess', 'Pink', 'Green' etc! 
If the children would just prefer to come in their own clothes. (not a word) this is fine too!

On days when we have P.E, if the weather is fine, Mr Childs will always try to take the children out for their lesson on the school field or playground. Therefore could you please ensure your child has either plimsoles or trainers in their PE bags. We do keep some spare pairs in the classroom, but not enough for everyone.

This morning's assembly was our 'Super Learning Gems' assembly. Each class teacher was tasked with the tough job of deciding which children in their class deserved each learning gem....and believe me...it was tough to pick just 1 winner for each gem.....there were lots of worthy candidates!

All the children have worked really hard and are very deserving of their awards. There is one more 'Super learning gem' assembly coming up in the year, so there is still time for the children to receive one!

For today's cooking, we had a Valentines theme. We made Love heart Jam tarts.
Mrs Rushbrooke kindly pre-made us some pastry, and then we rolled out with a rolling pin. We then pushed the pastry into the tin, and put some jam in the middle with a teaspoon....it was rather sticky!
We then cut out a love heart with a cookie cutter out of the left over pastry, and added this to the top of our jam tarts.
The it was time for them to go on the oven to cook.....

This week, as you may of heard and seen, we have been making Chinese laterns and lucky money parcels, hearing about the story behind the animals of Chinese New Year, finding out which year of animal we were each born in, using chopsticks and bowls with the playdough, having a go at writing Chinese numbers and symbols, colouring in picture of the animals from the story, trying on traditional Chinese clothes, listening and dancing to traditional Chinese music, and of course, tasting some Chinese food!....phew, what a week! 
The children appear to of really enjoyed our 'Chinese New Year' week....in fact they have asked if we can keep the activities out next week!

We used today's cooking session to try a selection of Chinese food. We were lucky enough to taste some noodles, rice, wantons, spring rolls, prawn toast and of course prawn crackers!  Even those of us who weren't too sure tasted some...and ended up loving it! Our classroom smelt rather like a Chinese restaurant!
