our first fire practise

This morning, the whole had a fire practise,,,,and of course this was Reception's first one.
All we can say is WOW!...... All the adults in the class room were so proud and so pleased of how well the children did!
Every child did exactly as they were asked to do....stopping whatever they were doing, not taking anything with them, and walking out into the playground in a quick, quiet and safe manor.

When we had returned back to the classroom, we told the children how well they had done, and how pleased all the adults were. We also had a quick talk about why we have fire practises at school.

our maths afternoon

Thank-you to those who came along to our 'Maths Afternoon' today. The atmosphere was lovely and we hope you all had a fun afternoon engaging in the maths activities with your children.

Just to let you know, that the children had their photograph taken as a whole class today - this will be appearing in the Evening/Ipswich star in the next coming week or so, so keep an eye out! - they looked lovely!

we went to the circus!

This morning, we were lucky enough to go into the 'Big Top' tent on the field to take part in a 'Circus Skills' workshop with Matt.
We had a go at lots of different circus type activities such as plate spinning, juggling, the 'Diablo' the 'Poi' and walking along a tightrope!
We all had lots of fun and tried really hard showing off our new circus skills to each other.
All the adults were super impressed with how well we listened to Matt, and the perseverance we showed!

fab phonics!

At the beginning of this week we began learning our phonics. At the moment we are learning one sound per week, and so far we have learnt the sounds s, a, t and p, and today we practiced writing them.
Miss Rushbrooke showed us how to form the sounds correctly, by telling us to start at the green dot, and finish at the red dot. Miss Rushbrooke then laid out lots of large pieces of paper on the classroom floor and we all sat, kneeled or even laid on our tummies and practiced forming the sounds with felt tip pens. By the end of the session the pieces of paper were jammed packed full of all the sounds we have been learning.

We have also been learning our 'Jolly Phonics' song- which has a little rhyme and action to help the children learn each sound. Here is the you tube link if you would like to take a look yourselves....

First of all, I must apologize, it seems there was an error on the form that got sent out to you. The children take part in cooking on a Thursday AFTERNOON, not the morning, which i believe was printed.
Apologies for this!

On today's menu was.....Gingerbread Men/People. Mrs Rushbrooke told us a little bit about the ingredients which go into Gingerbread, and then we made the 'people' shapes using the cutters....before they went into the oven to bake. The classroom smelt lovely.....a bit like Christmas!

Now that the colder weather has unfortunately made an appearance, we would encourage parents to send children in with a coat. We still try to make use of our outside area in the colder weather, and of course the children still go out on the filed or playground at lunchtime. Please could you ensure your child's name is written somewhere inside (as with all items of clothing which come into school).

Thank-you to those who have sent a baby photo of your child in. If you have not yet sent in a photo, could we please have them by the end of this week so that they can go up with our portrait and hand-print display for our 'All about me' topic.
As soon as we have taken a photocopy of the photograph, we will send them home- we know how precious those lovely photos are.
