Once again, well done to Isla, Branston and Heidi, and to our winner....Riley!
Well done to all the children who entered the 'Super-pig' competition- we had some fantastic entries in Hughes class. Every child who entered was presented with a certificate, and the winner was presented with a prize! Once again, well done to Isla, Branston and Heidi, and to our winner....Riley!

In our maths lessons this week we have been learning about length. We measured lots of different items from wooden spoons to socks and then put them in order from shortest to longest. We then even measured the length of ourselves.....some of us laid down in pairs on the floor and the rest of the children had to decide which of us was longer.........
Today, we will be sending out homework folders. To begin with, the homework will be phonics based.
Homework will be sent out on a Friday, and will be due in on the following Thursday. We have also sent out 'sound fans' with the folders, which the children will keep until the end of their time in Reception. The children can use these to practice their sounds, and at this stage make simple words- made up of the sounds they have learnt so far. Please do not panic about the amount of sounds on the fan- we are still in the beginning stages of our phonics- but all the sounds are on there ready for when you need to use them - making larger words when the children have learnt trigraphs and digraphs. On Thursday this week, it was the remaining children's turn to make their Christmas cakes....which once again saw the obligatory 'making a wish' stir of all the ingredients, Our Early Years kitchen smelt very yummy and Christmassy!....
Well done to all the children in Hughes class who have read 5 times a week or more over the last 7/8 weeks. All the names of the children in the class who have done this were put into a jar....and the lucky person whose name was pulled out was.......ISLA!
Isla chose a book from Mrs Matthew's basket as her prize. Well done Isla, and keep up the good reading Hughes class! This weeks cooking session saw the beginnings of Christmas.......with Mrs Rushbrooke's kind help, some of the children made a start on their Christmas cakes, this involved mixing, stirring and the traditional 'making a wish'......and there's still lots to be done to them! Those children who did not start their Christmas cakes this week, will so in the next few cooking sessions......but shhhhh, parents aren't supposed to know, the cakes are a surprise!......but we though you may like a peek of what they have doing!
