For today's cooking session, we made Gingerbread people!. We had to roll out the dough with a rolling pin to make a flat surface to then push our gingerbread cutters into, and then very carefully lay them on the baking trays. Then into the oven they went......they looked rather tasty and filled our classroom with a very yummy smell!
Thank you to Alex and Mrs Rushbrooke for helping us cook today! Just a quick and polite reminder about coats. As the weather is (unfortunately) getting colder, could you please ensure your child comes to school with a coat or jacket- we try to have active learning sessions outside everyday, and of course the children are either outside on the playground or field at lunchtimes
(unless wet play). Many thanks for your understanding. This morning, we had to collect our name cards from Miss Rushbrooke, and have a go at tracing our finger around each letter. We then had to count how many letters were in our name. Once we had all done that, Miss Rushbrooke asked all the people who had 3 letters in their name to stand up, and then place our names on top of the '3 letters' post-it note. We then did the same for all the people who had 4, 5 and 6 letters in their name and created a bar graph on the carpet. We then had to count up how many names where in each column to see how many children had the most amount of letters in their name. We found out that 9 people had 6 letters in their name. We also had a go at counting the amount of letters in the adults first names.
What marvelous maths! Despite the rather strong wind this morning, the children came in looking lovely and ready for their photos to be taken. The children behaved beautifully whilst waiting in line for their photo to be taken- and gave the photographer some fantastic smiles.
Next Thursday (27th September) the East Anglian Daily Times will be coming to take their 'First Class' photo for the Newspaper........so look out for the supplement in a few weeks time. This afternoon, we had our first cooking session. Linked to our topic of 'All about me' we made 'biscuit faces'.
We all had 2 water biscuits and firstly put a little bit of spread on them. Next, we sprinkled cheese on top, and then we were able to choose from carrot, cucumber, grapes, cress, tomato and pineapple to give our biscuits some hair, 2 eyes, a nose and a mouth. We think our 'biscuit faces' looked rather yummy! Thank-you to Alex who helped us with our cooking today. This morning we embarked on our 'Listening walk' around the school. First of all, we sat on the carpet and had a good think about some of the different sounds we might hear as we walked around the school.
We had some fantastic ideas, such as Teacher's talking, children laughing, chairs moving and the office telephone ringing. We then put on our very special listening ears and lined up smartly. We had to make sure our lips were closed and we used our tip-toe feet so that we wouldn't miss a sound....and off we went! On our walk around the school, we did hear some of the sounds we guessed, and some others too....such as some pencils falling on the floor and Mrs Ross making lots of noise in the office....dropping some paper and a clipboard! Once we had walked around the whole school, we sat back on the carpet to talk about the sounds we had heard and to tick or cross off the suggestions we had made on the whiteboard. The adults all said how proud they were of us as we walked around the school so quietly! Have a look at some of the photos from our walk....... We still have a pink cardigan and a denim jacket which were left here on the induction days back in July....do you recognize them? If you think they could belong to your child please see a member of the Early years staff
Many thanks This morning in our maths session, we were learning how to count to 10. First, we watched and listened to a man counting up to ten on a video, and then we all joined in with the singing and actions the second time around. We had another practice just before lunch too.......I think the song is stuck in everyone's heads now!
