For this weeks cooking session, we have been busy making 'Bird Cakes' .
Into a plastic cup, we put birds seeds, fruit, orange peel and cut up bread. Mrs Rushbrooke then melted some fat (lard) on on the hob, and once it was cool, had to carefully pour it in the plastic cups to make the fruit and seeds etc all bind together.
Then, we put the bird cakes into the fridge to 'set', ready for us to take home tomorrow.
...but we have to remember these cakes are for the birds...not us!
