After reading The Little Red Hen we were inspired to bake some bread. Unlike the very unhelpful animals in the book, the children did an amazing job helping Miss Holliman to bake some bread.
We talked about the process of planting the grain, growing the wheat, cutting and milling the wheat into flour and then kneading and baking the bread, just like in the story.
We enjoyed the bread rolls as our afternoon snack.
They smelt and tasted delicious!
The children then commented that the bread would be delicious with soup. So the next day we made some carrot, potato and parsnip soup to go with our left over bread. Yummy scrumpy!
