This week we have been learning about discussion writing. We have worked in groups to debate different topics, considering our argument and the counter argument and presenting our point of view to the rest of the class. A really high standard was evident, with everyone working hard to convince the audience that they were right! This debate should prepare us for an extended piece of discussion writing, considering - Do we need zoos?

We have been studying Evolution. Today in Science we were learning about Mary Anning, a palaeontologist who was born in the late 1700s and was a fossil hunter. She discovered many different fossils, including dinosaur bones.
Our task was to excavate fossils (choc chips) from the ground (cookie) without damaging it. We had a competition to see who was the best cookie palaeontologist. Profit - £10 per fossil (chic chip) Losses - £3 per tool (toothpick) £8 per broken fossil (broken choc chip) £6 per piece of damaged ground (broken pieces of cookie) The person who made the most money was the winner! Edward won - making £400! During the Spring Term in Geography we have been working in groups to research and find out more about the continents of the world. We worked over a 6 week period to create a display board, an annotated map and PowerPoint about our chosen continent. It required a lot of teamwork and organisational skills. Mrs Matthews graded us on our map, display PowerPoint and team work. Here are the results of our hard work:
For our Textiles Unit in Art we have been studying the artwork of artist and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser. We focused on his use of bold colour, perspective, line and shape. We will be using this artwork to influence us when creating Batik pieces of work. After collecting ideas in our sketch books and drafting out a rough sketch we are now using pastels to create picture in his distinctive style. We started the pastel pictures today and will continue tomorrow..... Watch this space. |
