In Geography this half term we have been learning about the 7 continents. In groups we have worked independently to research and find out about one of the continents. We had to produce a map, a display and present our findings to the rest of the class. Mrs Matthews was also looking for good teamwork, independent working and organisational skills, as we worked together to produce quality pieces of work.

Today Y6 and Y5 worked together to have 4 teams competing in the Felixstowe Schools Football and Netball Tournament.
TSM Netball Team A (in blue) came first and TSM Netball Team B (in yellow) came second. TSM Football Team A came first and TSM Football Team B came second. A great result for us again. Well done everybody!! Today the whole school raised money for Comic Relief wearing red and taking part in fun activities.
Blake decided to dye his hair red and raised an amazing £550, along with the money the school raise, the total is almost £800. Blake and Mandela Class were on Radio Suffolk and BBC Look East and even appeared on the Comic Relief TV programme! Check us out!! For our Textiles Unit in Art we have been studying the artwork of artist and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser. We focused on his use of bold colour, perspective, line and shape. We will be using this artwork to influence us when creating Batik pieces of work. After collecting ideas in our sketch books and drafting out a rough sketch we are now using pastels to create picture in his distinctive style. We started the pastel pictures today and will continue next week..... Watch this space.
Special thanks to Mrs Lawrence for her help with this lesson :-) Today we have been learning more about circles and the parts of a circle. We have been using pi to help us work out the circumference of circles and we have been enlarging our circles by different scales, drawing them on the playground!!
In Art we have been learning about the work of the architect Norman Foster. He designed some famous structures including: the Gherkin and the Millennium Bridge in London; the Willis Faber building in Ipswich Stansted Airport and the Sainsbury Centre.
We have also been learning about and experimenting with perspective drawing - we used this skill to design a press print and used it to create a repeated pattern, with some brilliant results: Today the next group performed their poems to the rest of the class, sadly Freddy was absent, but he can have his turn (and collect his chocolate bar) next week!
In Mandela Class we are lucky enough to have Mr Harvey work with us to help a different group (each half term) to learn a poem off by heart and recite it to the rest of the class. This is a skill, which is not only part of the Year 6 expectations for reading, but is also a life skill which prepares the children for High School and beyond. It always amazes me how all different types of children respond to the task and the change which occurs in their confidence and ability in just 6 weeks. What a treat! Another great performance. Well done everyone! We are trying to learn 'The Grammar Song' to help us revise for our SPAG SAT in May.
