We hope you all enjoy this as much as we have enjoyed putting it together!
At this time of year normally we would have spent a few weeks preparing a carol concert for our parents to come and watch. This year has been anything but normal, however this has not stopped us from doing something special for our parents. We hope you all enjoy this as much as we have enjoyed putting it together!

Today everyone received their Mystery Christmas Book Club book. We selected a book for everyone, which we hope they will enjoy, for them to read over the holiday break. When they finish it they can take a photo and upload it with a review to Seesaw before returning it to the class library. We were all so excited to open the book! Everyone has a book we think they might like, but they may not have chosen for THEMSELVES. We can't wait to read the book reviews!Good use of these Learning Gems:Our finished designs:Great use of these Learning Gems:Well done to all the 7 children who have achieved this term's Learning Gem 💎 Awards.
It was so difficult to choose as we have all worked so hard on the Learning Gems this term! Today was Mrs Matthews' Reading Raffle , there are many books to win, if you read 5 times a week! Mrs Ross announced the winner during her virtual assembly. Our Y6 winner was very pleased with his choice.
This week we have spent time finding out how animals have adapted themselves to the environments they live in - with a focus being on animals living in the desert. The children gathered information on desert animal's adaptations before presenting what they had found out. They were allowed to present their information in a number of different ways and I was really pleased with the focus and quality of their work. Following this, we then looked at 9 key adaptations for life in the desert and rated them in a 'diamond 9' formation, with the most important 1 at the top down to the least important 1 at the bottom. We then used this to create our own animals suitable for living in a desert! Later in the week, we talked about shark adaptations (thinking back to the Live Lesson that we had at the beginning of November). The children thought about the adaptations and what would happen if those adaptations hadn't happened or weren't there anymore. To end the week's science learning, I read the children a story called Moth all about how the peppered moth had evolved. We then began an investigation to explore how the moth's population changed over time. Great use of these learning gems:n English we have been writing newspaper recounts about a time in South African history, trying hard to use a journalistic writing style. These children wrote about Sharpeville where on 21st March 1960 some peaceful South Africans, who were protesting about Black South Africans being forced to carry passbooks wherever they went and obey the unfair apartheid rules, were shot and attacked by police. These children wrote about when Nelson Mandela was sworn in as president (the first black president of South Africa) on 10th May 1990. These children wrote about when Nelson Mandela was finally released from prison after 27 years in jail for treason These children wrote about when Nelson Mandela sadly died on 5th December 2013. Good use of these Learning Gems:Today in RE we had the chance to express our learning during this Hindu unit by selecting an activity to show our understanding. We worked hard and enjoyed sharing what we created with the whole class 😊 selecting from a range of activities. Good use of these Learning Gems:This week we used the data we had gathered on inherited features in our class last week, to make simple bar graphs. Following this we began to look at adaptation. We started this by looking at the Tube-lipped nectar bat, who has a tongue that is 1.5x longer than its body. We measured the length of each other and then multiplied this length by 1.5 to see how long our own tongues would be if we were like the bat!
