Good use of these Learning Gems:To end our textile unit we have created some fantastic textile batik wall hangings. We designed them using a Christmas Theme and applied melted wax to the fabric and then used fabric ink to colour them. We are pleased with the results. Our finished work:Good use of these Learning Gems:Today saw the second five children perform their poems to the rest of the class. In Mandela Class we are lucky enough to have Mr Harvey work with us to help a different group (each half term) to learn a poem off by heart and recite it to the rest of the class. This is a skill, which is not only part of the Year 6 expectations for reading, but is also a life skill which prepares the children for High School and beyond. It always amazes me how all different types of children respond to the task and the change which occurs in their confidence and ability in just 6 weeks. This group did particularly well as they missed some sessions due to isolating. Well done! Good use of these Learning Gems:Today we were able to put together our finished patchwork quilt, made up of a variety of dip dyed fabric squares, with a design produced with permanent fabric markers and enhanced with stitching detail. After dyeing our fabric squares, we added a design with fabric pens and then enhanced our work with stitching details. Our Individual finished squaresGood use of these Learning Gems:Afterwards we performed our speeches to each other!
Good use of these Learning Gems:This week some children were continuing their science learning at home, whilst others were in school. We all started off with the same task: explaining what would happen if a polar bear adaptation was missing. Following this, the children working at home listened to Moth by Isabel Thomas and then used this to created a cartoon strip explaining how the peppered moths had adapted to their environment through the years. The children at school, carried out an investigation looking at how the population of different coloured moths might change over the years. They then produced brilliant line graphs to show what they had found out. As a final task, all the children were asked to create a moth which was most adapted to its environment - a pile of leaves. The results were great! Great use of these learning gems:After we had edited our work we typed them up (including the children isolating at home). We were really pleased with the finished results. Would you be persuaded by us? Good use of these Learning Gems: |
