Today was a brilliant day for Year 6.
I was so impressed with all the 11 children
who nominated themselves for the roles of
Head Boy and Head Girl.
After outlining why they would be suitable for
the job and being interviewed, Mrs Ross,
Mrs MacFarlane and I had the unenviable task
of choosing only one Head Girl and one
Head Boy.
I feel tremulously proud of everyone who
took part and am confident that the 2 children
chosen will do an amazing job this year!!
Another proud moment today was seeing the first five children (The Fantastic Five) perform their poems to the rest of the class. In Mandela Class we are lucky enough to have Mr Harvey work with us to help a different group (each half term) to learn a poem off by heart and recite it to the rest of the class. This is a skill, which is not only part of the Year 6 expectations for reading, but is also a life skill which prepares the children for High School and beyond. It always amazes me how all different types of children respond to the task and the change which occurs in their confidence and ability in just 6 weeks. What a treat! This is Mrs Ross' first experience with seeing some of the public speaking skills we develop in Year 6 and she was really blown away! Well done everyone!
