After that, we looked at some of the vocabulary we were going to be using in this topic. We sorted them in any way we wanted, most pairs sorted them by words they knew and didn't know. Luckily, most pairs knew what lots of the words meant already!

We started our first science topic in Year 6 this week called Electrifying. The first thing we did was reminded ourselves of some of the things we learnt in Year 4, including what an insulator and a conductor was. After that, we looked at some of the vocabulary we were going to be using in this topic. We sorted them in any way we wanted, most pairs sorted them by words they knew and didn't know. Luckily, most pairs knew what lots of the words meant already! We were then set a challenge of making a complete circuit using 2 wires, a bulb and a battery, which we all did very quickly! Next, we learnt about how to draw a circuit scientifically, using the correct symbols to show the different components of the circuit we had made. We were then able to make any circuits we liked as long as we drew the circuit diagram of them in our books.
Following this, we played an electrical component game to practice recognising the symbols we had been using. Before playing Pictionary Vocabulary, where we need to draw one of the electrical vocabulary for our partner to guess. Good use of these Learning Gems:

We began our work on Place Value this week. We started with practising being able to read and write numbers up to 10,000,000, then looked at comparing and ordering these numbers before finally looking at rounding numbers. All the children worked hard with these objectives and were able to solve some reasoning problems related to them. A great start to our maths this year :) GOOD USE OF THESE LEARNING GEMS:Mystery Book club is when Mrs Matthews wraps up a book she has especially selected for each group to read. We've been seeing the packages on the table since last week, so have been dying to find out what was inside! Today we found out and got to unwrap them!! Our first Mystery Book club was a great success! We were all excited to unwrap and start reading our first book. Everyone was engrossed in reading their books and were keen to talk about what they had read.
Another great day today. The children got really stuck in to our team challenge this morning and continue to take the new routines in their stride.
Here is the winning team with their Rude Goldberg style creation! In the afternoon, the class investigated how many water droplets could fit on a coin.
What a great first day back - we were both so proud of our new class. They were fantastic and adapted to the changes fantastically! Here are some pictures of our day: our Art lesson creating unique graffiti arms to show our individuality.Good use of these Learning Gems:our break time spent in Zone D on the field.Eating lunch in the classroom. |
