This morning we began our new science topic on evolution. After the children explored what they already knew about the topic, we went outside and created a human timeline to show how long different living things have existed on Earth. It was amazing to discover the small amount of time humans have been on Earth compared to bacteria. Some children also wondered how much longer we would last on the planet if we continue to damage it.

We had a really interesting afternoon speaking with Margaret (a friend of Mrs Allen) who was evacuated age 5 from Croydon to Devon during WW2.

Our finished sculpturesGood use of these Learning Gems:Mr Edward's was poorly today so the children worked with Mrs Hayter on a small computing project. Using Microbits, they had to had to work in a group to compose a piece of music including a beat, melody and harmony. The children's focus and knowledge of Microbits was great and there were some great final outcomes which, with a little more time, could be made even better. good use of these learning gems:As part of safer internet day we talked about respect and self-respect when online. The children were good at understanding the boundaries people have and how it's important to treat people online as you would do in real life. At the end of the lesson, the children worked in small groups to come up with their own online charter for them to follow. great use of this learning gem:Today, the children worked in groups to carry out a fair test in to how the sound of a buzzer changed as the voltage in the circuit was increased (they increased the voltage by adding more batteries each time they tested). They used their knowledge from previous investigations to make a prediction, then drew a line graph to show the results and finally explained what they found out.
This year the leavers' hoodies arrived before the Summer so the children will be getting plenty of wear out of them!
Good use of this learning gem:In History we have been finding out more about rationing in Britain during WW2. We did some great research and then worked with a partner to produce a newspaper article about Rationing. Newspaper Articles about Rationing:Good use of these Learning Gems:Today, after working really hard over the past few months, we handed our soft toys over to our customers. The children should be really proud of what they have achieved - starting with an initial design (by their reception buddy) to a final product. It was not an easy task but really showed the children's skills, not only with regard to DT but also with our learning gems. Great use of these learning gems: |
