Two teams of Y5 and Y6 cyclists were selected to take part in races against other Felixstowe Primary schools as part of the Women's Cycle Tour celebrations at Felixstowe seafront. Both our Teams won all their races and overall Team A came first and Team B came second. Well done!

We started the unit by finding out more about the buildings designed by Norman Foster and recording our findings in our sketchbooks. We then learnt how to create one point perspective drawings and practiced the technique. Finally we produced some one point perspective drawings independently, going over the pencil design with sharpie and then colouring it in using pencil crayons. Good use of these Learning Gems:This afternoon, we started science with a game of vocabulary dominoes. The children used the key words related to our electricity topic, taking it in turns to lay a card down in dominoes styles. As they laid their card down, they had to give a reason why their card was related to the card they had put it next to. Here are some of the links they came up with along with the reasons. After this, we chose an enquiry question we would like to explore today, from the questions we wrote at the end of the last week's lesson. First we needed to establish the type of enquiry it was using the branching key. The children were really quick to identify the type of enquiry they were carrying out - most groups were carrying out a fair test and one group had an observation over time to do. The children then predicted what they thought would happen including a reason why, carried out the investigation, drew a bar or line graph (depending on what whether they had collected continuous or discrete data) and then concluded the investigation. We have Book Club for two 30 minute sessions a week and we really enjoy having the opportunity to read books in small groups for pleasure. Sometimes we read by candle and torch light. Making our reading relaxing and fun! Good use of these Learning Gems:We have been finding out more about the gospels and exploring the Bible. We looked closely at the Good News Bible and found out more about its illustrator, Annie Vallotton - the world's best selling artist. We had a go at recreating our own illustrations of stories we've been reading in the Gospels: Good use of these Learning Gems:This week we began our science lesson with a game of bingo to check the children understood the meaning of the key electricity vocabulary we have been using. We followed this with a quick check of what key scientists did for the development of electricity, then the children used a Carroll diagram to sort some batteries. Following this, the children then carried out an investigation to find out if the brightness of a bulb was affected by the number of batteries in a circuit. We turned the lights off in order to get as accurate readings as possible from the data loggers. After adding just a few batteries to the circuits, the groups quickly realised that adding batteries definitely had an affect on the brightness of a bulb! Good use of these learning gems: |
