Operation Apostrophe
Today we looked at contractions. We scrubbed up, put on masks and did some surgery on words, changing them to contractions. We applied a plaster apostrophe where we removed letters.
A contraction is a shortened word, where one or more letters have been removed (omitted) and replaced by an apostrophe. This technique is called 'omission' - one of the powers that an apostrophe possesses. It is very a handy thing to know and do, as it makes writing less repetitive, shortens text and also helps your writing to flow.
